ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effect of language frames (analog vs. numeric) on users' confidence in the recommendation and the moderating role of need for cognition (NFC) in AI movie recommendation chatbot. A 2 × 2 online experiment with 175 adults aged 20-39 found that the frame × NFC interaction was not supported (p > .05). However, post-hoc analyses revealed: (1) a mediation effect of emotional processing between an alog framing and confidence-inspiring scale (CIS); (2) a main effect of NFC on CIS (p < .05); and (3) 'Learn More' clickers reported significantly lower CIS than non-clickers. The findings suggest universal use of analog framing rather than user-trait-based differentiation, and caution against prominent information-seeking options.
