AB - This study aimed to analyze the current status of certified caregivers leaving the labor market and to propose policy tasks for securing a sustainable care workforce. The analysis revealed a significant gap between the certified and active workforce; while the number of certified caregivers has continuously increased, the actual working population remains at approximately 23 percent. Furthermore, low wages, poor working conditions, high labor intensity, emotional labor and a lack of influx of young people were identified as major factors contributing to the departure from the labor market. Accordingly, this study proposed prioritizing the expansion of labor market participation, improvement of working conditions and support for long-term employment for Korean caregivers, while simultaneously implementing policies to systematically utilize foreign caregivers to address increasing care demands. This study is significant in that it presents policy implications for long-term care workforce policies and the establishment of a sustainable care system to address the challenges of a super-aged society.
