ABSTRACT

The Korean national police had to go through vicissitudes from the beginning because of the unstable domestic situation. The period from independence, the division of North and South, and the Korean War to 4.19 revolution and 5.16 coup was the chaotic period not only for the police but for all sectors of our country. Due to this situation, the history of Korean national police could not be properly established. So after the chaotic period, many researches related to the police has been conducted, but there are still many errors in those researches. I searched for various police-related data, collated them, and tried to identify and correct the errors. Although many achievements have been made in this paper, it was not easy to accurately identify the history of Korean national police with the efforts of individual researchers. Therefore, for the correction of errors related to police history, active attention and support from Korean national police agency is urgently needed.
