ABSTRACT

This study aims to derive design principles for a web-based system that effectively supports the characteristics and needs of inquiry-centered instruction. To address the limitations of existing question-support tools, which primarily focus on question generation or provide fixed templates, this study analyzed the needs of teachers and students based on inquiry-centered instructional design guidelines and the Electronic Performance Support System (EPSS) theory. Through a comprehensive examination of inquiry-centered instructional design guidelines, the EPSS framework, and empirical needs analyses of teachers and students, seven core design principles and their corresponding implementation guidelines were proposed. The proposed design principles reflect the actual requirements of teachers and students and are distinguished from existing tools by utilizing generative AI to enable customized question generation and feedback provision. This study provides a theoretical foundation for establishing a digital support environment for inquiry-centered instruction and suggests the need for further empirical validation through future research.
