ABSTRACT

This study aimed to compare and analyze the factors associated with academic achievement among adolescents from multicultural and monocultural families using data from the 20th (2024) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Complex sample logistic regression analysis was conducted using data from 54,653 middle and high school students nationwide after excluding cases with missing values. The results showed that household economic status, depression and weekday smartphone use time were significantly associated with academic achievement in both groups. Subjective stress was identified as an additional associated factor among adolescents from multicultural families, whereas school level, residential type, and generalized anxiety disorder were identified as additional associated factors among adolescents from monocultural families. These findings suggest the need to comprehensively consider socioeconomic characteristics, mental health, and health behaviors and to establish information technology-based, tailored educational and health support systems that reflect the characteristics of each group to improve adolescents’ academic achievement.
