Objectives: This study aimed to identify the literature and related factors used in communication competency scales for dental hygienists in Korea. Methods: A scoping review was conducted using a five-step method of setting research questions: searching for related studies; selecting literature; recording data; and comparing results, summarizing, and reporting. Results: Of the 19 studies selected, 15 were quantitative and four were qualitative. The most frequently used communication competency scale was the life skills measurement tool, and the related variables were, first, job satisfaction and, second, turnover intention, with most individual perspective studies. Communication positively affected job satisfaction and negatively affected turnover intention. Conclusions: Communication competency of dental hygienists was an important job-related factor; however, the comunication competency scale was insufficient. Therefore, the development of a patient-centered dental hygienist communication competency scale is suggested.

Objectives: This scoping review aimed to identify and analyze intervention strategies and assessment methods for oral hygiene management (OHM) and oral function management (OFM) in patients with stroke admitted to general wards, with the goal of providing directions for future research. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive literature search on studies published over the past 10 years across databases, including Cochrane, Embase, Medline, PubMed, and ProQuest. A total of 18 studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: In the OHM studies (N=7), oral hygiene care was primarily provided by nurses, dental assistants, and nursing care aides. Oral hygiene was assessed using plaque and gingival bleeding indices with products such as electronic toothbrushes and mouth rinses. In the OFM studies (N=11), care was provided by speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and dental hygienists. Assessment tools included the Functional Oral Intake Scale, the PenetrationAspiration Scale, and Video Fluoroscopic Swallowing Studies. Conclusions: Improving the oral health of patients with stroke requires both hygiene and functional management. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a method that provides specialized oral care tailored to the hospitalization environment and the specific conditions of patients with stroke.

Objectives: This study used the 18th Youth Online Health Behavior Data to compare oral disease symptoms according to the eating habits of adolescents from Korean families and adolescents from multicultural families. The total number of subjects was 40,913. Methods: The Rao-Scott chi-square test was used to compare general characteristics, eating habits, and experience with oral disease symptoms. In the final multiple logistic regression analysis, general characteristics and eating habits-related characteristics were used as correction variables to investigate eating habits related to oral disease symptoms in Korean adolescents and adolescents from multicultural families. Results: In Korean family the experience of oral disease symptoms was found to be lower when sweet drink 5-6 times a week 0.89 times, 3-4 times a week 0.77 times, 1-2 times a week 0.65 times, and 0.56 times when not consuming them than when consuming them daily. In multicultural families, the incidence of experiencing oral disease symptoms was 0.47 times lower in those who sweet drink daily than in those who consumed them 1-2 times a week, and 0.32 times lower in those who did not consume them. Conclusions: Based on the above research results, it is thought that customized nutrition education and oral health education programs should be continuously developed and utilized to promote oral health among adolescents from Korean families and multicultural families and to change their eating habits.
