ABSTRACT

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the extent to which factors related to oral disease prevention practices influence infection prevention among adults aged 19 years and older in preparation for the twin pandemics. Methods: Data from the 2021 Community Health Survey were used to identify 122,363 individuals aged ≥19 years who had received both COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations to practice preventive health behaviors. Cross-analysis and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to distinguish between post-lunch brushing and pre-bedtime brushing as oral disease prevention behaviors. Results: The factors associated with oral disease prevention behaviors for infection prevention in adults aged ≥19 years were sex, number of household members, education level, smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, fear of judgment, fear of infection, and fear of economic loss. Oral disease prevention practices such as brushing before bedtime were associated with higher rates of oral disease prevention compared to those who brushed after lunch. Oral disease prevention behavior of brushing after lunch was higher in the group with high anxiety about COVID-19. Conclusions: The association between COVID-19 vaccination and preventive oral health behaviors in adults aged ≥19 years due to influenza vaccination was demonstrated. This can be used as a basis for preventing the spread of COVID-19 and promoting preventive oral health behaviors in the population.
