ABSTRACT

This article has a purpose to look at the practical pastoral situation in a systemic and objective statistics and analyze its present matrix of problems so that the timely and relevant Christian counseling practice could be set up. Christian counseling is concerned about individual's personality making and his/her relationships with others. It is not a purely theoretical discipline, but a practical discipline. To prepare relevant theories to the present situation by analyzing the real issues is very necessary. To make a close survey at pastoral settings three Master level theses under my mentorship are summarized: "Study on the Burnout factors of Pastors," "The Relationships between Faith, Couple Communications, Depression, Marital Satisfaction," Study on the Christian Youths' Stresses and their Solutions. These three theses are showing the realities of Korean churches, even though they are limited in many ways. The results of this writing are twofold. One is the absence and confusion of Biblical values in the core values of church growth. The other is the seriousness of miscommunication patterns, and the lack of the positive and creative talk experiences in the most Korean people. These two are the most important tasks ahead in the area of Christian Counseling.
