ABSTRACT

The primary purpose of this article is to analyze the social enterprise support system of the United States and derive the policy implications to improve Korea's social enterprise support system. To the end, this article first examined the concepts of social enterprise and social entrepreneurship and then clarified the differences between European countries and the United States in understanding these concepts. With regard to the framework of the analysis, this article brought in the following five variables - legal-institutional system, administrative system, financial support system, policies and programs, and the social support system of the private sector. The following chapter, based on these five variables, conducted the empirical analysis on the contemporary situation of the social enterprise support system of the United States. Consecutively, this article debated over the problems and implications of the American system to support social enterprises. As a conclusion, this article suggested the policy directions to improve the Korea's social enterprise support system, by referring to the lessons from the case study on the social enterprise support system in the United States.
