AB - The purpose of this article is to re-examine the Aemin’s Article 1 of Mokminsimseo from the perspective of contemporary welfare for the aged, in comparison with the motivation behind Dasan's writing of Mokminsimseo and the then political, social, and economic backgrounds. To the end, this article first discussed Dasan Jeong Yak-yong's life and the times and circumstances when he wrote Mokminsimseo, in order to provide readers with background knowledge about Dasan and Mokminsimseo. The next chapter summarized the general contents and significance of Mokminsimseo and the precedent studies on the social welfare ideology of Dasan and his Mokminsimseo. The main part of this article is to analyze the detailed contents of the Aemin's Article 1 of Mokminsimseo and to re-interprete them from the perspective of contemporary elderly welfare administration. The final chapter debated on the implications of the Aemin's Article 1 of Mokminsimseo for the contemporary welfare for the aged.
