ABSTRACT

Korean Government has limited institutional veto of a credit card merchant. This can be seen as the only type of regulation in the world. Therefore, analysis of the credit card industry in Korea is an interesting field of study. Researches related to credit card merchant fees have been performed mainly in the improvement of political policies rather than practical calculation. However, studies on actual costing to support these policies have been not performed. This study confirmed the cost drivers of credit card merchant fee and presented how to calculate eligible credit card merchant fees through the costing actually. This study is very useful to understand the calculation of the costs associated with business part of the credit card and credit card merchant fees and actual costing principle, it consists of a presentation of the merchant fee rate calculation method. Results were analyzed that the rates of credit card merchant fee to sales would be decreased from 2.14% to 1.91%. This study is significant in that the first paper, the analysis of the credit card merchant fee on the basis of cost. Also it can give a lot of help costing method presented in this study and it is useful to train students costing at university or practice, results of this study provide a practical basis of policy decisions for future credit card merchant fees estimates.
