ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of gratitude on job satisfaction and retirement preparation among employees in financial institutions. We surveyed about two-hundred workers in local financial industries and examined their level of gratitude, self-esteem, cynicism, job satisfaction, and retirement preparation. Path-analysis revealed that (1)there is no direct effect of gratitude on neither job satisfaction nor retirement preparation; (2)gratitude have direct effects on both self-esteem and cynicism; (3)both self-esteem and cynicism have direct effects on job satisfaction and retirement preparation. In this study, we propose the comprehensive model to understand individual-level factors that influence retirement preparation and satisfaction.
