ABSTRACT

This study identifies the factors affecting on the depression of the elderly and will be utilized as basic data for integral community care program of the elderly. The survey has applied to the elderly over 65-year-old living in 4 Ri, H Myeon in W City during 15 of April to 7th of May in 2019. 179 questionnaires have conducted and analyzed. The collected data was analyzed for normal distribution and multi-collinearity, and path analysis by SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 21.0. The 68.2% respondents were female; the average age was 78.22. According to the path of the research model, the path from social support to self-rated health and depression and the path from self-rated health to number of chronic diseases and depression were statistically significant. Throughout the study, the factors affecting on the depression of the elderly were social support and self-rated health. The study identifies that social support affects social participation so that the community care program reinforcing the social support to reduce the depression and increase social participation should be developed and applied.
