ABSTRACT

The personal name is not only the most basic means of expressing oneself to anyone, it also gives them a sense of belonging to the community, including their families. In addition, it is said to be linked to the most basic elements in the formation of human identities, as it is a basis for forming a sense of social trust and relationships. The purpose of this study is to derive meaningful implications for the correlation between names and identities through changes in names that were mainly used by Swedish people. The main study was conducted through the process of analyzing the meaning and character of the major names of Swedish people in each period. As a result of the study, it was found that the trend of Swedish name change was influenced by various historical and cultural variables, and it was confirmed that the meaning and character of the multiple level were reflected. In addition, it can be seen that it is continuously changing and diversifying as a means of expressing identity.
