ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study is to empirically examine whether the different number of COVID-19 cases by each country worldwide can be effectively explained by national cultural differences. National cultural differences are measured using the results of the three existing large-scale comparative studies, namely Geert Hofstede’s research on cultural dimensions, GLOBE project, and Shalom H. Schwartz’s value orientation research. The results show that individualism vs. collectivism as well as power distance dimension have robust relations with the number of COVID-19 cases.
