ABSTRACT

Recently, cases of using board games for educational purposes in academia are increasingly being reported. Board games in which several horses are placed on the board and moved by rolling dice or playing cards according to certain rules are a play tool that can be used as fun while enjoying leisure time not only for adolescents but also for adults. However, there are not many case studies at home and abroad on how board games can be developed as educational tools aimed at providing fun and enjoyment. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to present a research method for designing and developing educational board games, and the educational content was selected as 'carbon neutral education'. The goal of developing board games is to motivate young people to learn the concept and action plan of carbon neutrality through learning tools, recognize the importance of climate change and carbon neutrality, and practice them in real life. As a method of developing learning contents for educational board game design, expert opinions were collected using the Delphi technique, and card components and designs were systematically designed. The educational board game developed in this study was produced as a prototype, and tests were conducted on elementary and middle school students. As a result, it was found that education through experience-oriented functional games rather than theoretical lectures has a positive effect on students' understanding of the concept and importance of carbon neutrality easily and strengthening their will to practice. The design and development method of educational board games presented in this study can contribute to the activation of educational board games in the future
