ABSTRACT

This study examined how economic policy institutions currently provide online archival information services, with the aim of proposing measures to improve individual institutions’ services. The study surveyed the websites of 70 institutions—central banks, ministries of finance, and financial supervisory authorities—among the 25 member countries of the Financial Stability Board, and selected 9 institutions operating online catalogues or digital archives for further analysis. This analysis covered four areas: archives information, description and use of holdings, research support, and outreach. The results showed that basic information such as institutional overviews and contact details, as well as functions such as keyword and advanced search, were provided by most institutions, whereas information on the provenance of holdings and outreach content were comparatively lacking, revealing notable disparities across the four areas. Based on these findings, four measures were proposed: providing guidance on the location and availability of records, offering information on the structure and origin of holdings, establishing a step-by-step research support system, and expanding archive-specific content and academic activities.
