ABSTRACT

This study is a descriptive survey aimed at identifying factors influencing the turnover intention of nurses in a regional public hospital. The study subjects were 120 nurses from local public hospitals. The results showed that the average job satisfaction score of the subjects was 3.58 out of 5, the average score for policies and systems was 4.01 out of 5, and the average turnover intention score was 2.70 out of 5. Job satisfaction according to the general characteristics of the subjects was statistically significantly higher for males (t=2.00, p =.044), those aged 20-29 (t=2.03, p =.042), those with a junior college(t=2.09, p =.035), and those without children (t=-2.86, p =.001). Turnover intention according to the general characteristics of the subjects was statistically significantly higher for females (t=-2.18, p =.032). Job satisfaction and turnover intention of the subjects showed a statistically significant negative correlation (r=-.63, p <.001). The variable that statistically significantly influenced turnover intention was job satisfaction (β=-.62, p =.000). At a time when the importance of public medical institutions and medical personnel is being re-recognized after COVID-19, it is necessary to seek ways to efficiently manage turnover by creating a work environment that improves the job satisfaction of public hospital nurses.
