ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explore and understand the essence of the experiences of nursing students who participated as senior mentors in a peer mentoring-based fundamental of nursing practicum. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with eight nursing students from December 18 to December 22, 2023, and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. The study’s finding derived 3 categories. The specific categories were ‘self-contribution,’ ‘self-burden,’ and ‘self-growth.’ For the positive engagement of senior students in the future, appropriate course design and active support from instructors are necessary.
