ABSTRACT

In recent years, South Korea has experienced a rapid process of digital transformation, significantly influencing the forms of worship and ministry. The traditional offline-centered model has increasingly shifted toward online and hybrid formats. This transition was further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought the necessity of non-face-to-face worship services, online small groups, and the use of social media platforms for evangelism to the forefront. Despite the growing importance of digital ministry, there remains a considerable disparity in IT ministry capacity among churches, largely determined by differences in size, financial resources, and human capital. Except for a few large churches, many churches lack dedicated IT professionals, sufficient equipment, and stable budgets, which hampers the strategic planning and sustainable implementation of digital ministry initiatives. Given these circumstances, there is a pressing need to empirically examine the relationship between church size, infrastructure, and digital ministry capacity, and to propose strategic directions for its development. Against this backdrop, the present study aims to systematically assess the current state of digital ministry in Korean Protestant churches and to identify concrete pathways for its institutionalization, budgetary restructuring, and the establishment of comprehensive training systems.
