ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence (AI) education is emerging as a strategic approach to fostering future core competencies, beyond simple technical skills. Ensuring a seamless transition from early childhood to primary education is essential for effective AI learning. However, current AI education in Korea faces structural challenges, including disconnected curricula, inconsistent teaching methods, and a lack of teacher collaboration between kindergarten and elementary school. This study aims to establish a connected AI education model that ensures continuity and coherence between early childhood and primary education. Through a review of domestic and international literature, an analysis of the current AI education landscape in Korea, and a comparison with leading cases from Estonia and the UK, key components and practical strategies for linkage were identified. Based on these findings, this study proposes concrete actions such as curriculum design reflecting developmental stages, gradual expansion of AI concepts, consistent terminology and content, aligned teaching strategies, and strengthened teacher collaboration. Such a connected approach supports uninterrupted learning experiences and fosters critical competencies like creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and ethical judgment in the AI era. This study provides practical directions and foundational insights for future curriculum development, policy planning, and teacher training systems in AI education.
