AB - This study aims to examine the effect of academic dropout risk factors (negative lifestyle attitudes) on depression among multicultural adolescents in the Internet of Things (IoT) era and to verify the moderating effect of parental support in this relationship. Data were drawn from the 6th wave (2024) of the second-phase Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS) conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute, analyzing a sample of 1,765 9th-grade multicultural students using the SPSS PROCESS Macro (Model 1). The main findings are as follows: First, negative lifestyle attitudes, as key academic dropout risk factors, significantly increased depression among multicultural adolescents. Second, parental support demonstrated a significant moderating effect, buffering the positive impact of dropout risk factors on depression. Specifically, higher levels of parental support progressively mitigated the negative influence of dropout risk factors on depressive symptoms. These findings provide empirical evidence highlighting the essential buffering role of parental support as a protective home environment factor for preventing depression and enhancing emotional stability among multicultural adolescents in a smart technology environment.
