ABSTRACT

This thesis studied MongO Kim Jongsu’ Sino-Korean poetry by using MongO collections held in his descendants. Because of his political status as leader of the Stubborn Nolon, it was overlooked that his Sino-Korean poetry was high quality and he worked as a Cheongryu in his youth. He was critical of the fact that Yeongjo's Tangpyeong government was only a temporary political alliance and that there was no real improvement in the lives of the people. He realized that his path was to become a scholar outside the government. He pursued the antiquities and the old way in search of ideals rather than reality. He shared this high pursuit with his Cheongryu colleagues, including Yi Yunyeong, Yi In-sang and O Chan. Kim and his Danleungguban wrote poems based on objects that could easily reveal the old way such as apricot, geomungo and antiques. As the political environment changed with Eulhaeogsa in 1755, he began his career as a public official. When he passed the literary exam in 1768, he pursued "Cheongryu politics" based on the way of life that was pursued by his youth.
