The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the aspect of literary style and orthograpy in korean poems focused on The Independence Paper, Shang Hai Edition. First of all, The Independence Paper, Shang Hai Edition, had a mixed literary style, that is, the style of Chinese writing, the mingling Hangul with Chinese characters, the Korean language. Second, the orthograpy of The Independence Paper, Shang Hai Edition, was not different from that of the flowering of korean civilization. A punctuation mark and the space of writing were disordered, but the edition of middle period seemed to be more a modern korean language than that of the early days.
Even though the research institute of korean language and the government-general tried to make a draft for unified spelling system at the beginning of twentieth[20th] century, the realistic orthograpy had not been progressed from the customary spelling system. In other words, it was fundamental rules that the final consonant of the indeclinable parts of speech in Korean grammar and a word with declined or conjugated endings ought to be used seven-final consonant. When we unite noun and postposition, we must make split-writing without exception. There was no rule in case of the word with declined or conjugated endings and it needed a split-writing according to the practice of user. ‘ㄺ, ㄻ and ㄼ’ need a split-writing and the fortis, ‘된ㅅ’ adhere[cling] to the unified writing of two or three different words. These customary practices were not made by ourselves. But these were triggered by psychological cause harboring ill feeling against Japan and by the distant cause generated in China, not in Korea.
