ABSTRACT

This study aims at analyzing the Mulgogiganguisil by the poet Kang, Hee-ahn in the aspects of Korean semantics. The results are as follows. First, the poet used many semantic mechanisms which are homonymy, antonymy, polysemy and synonymy. Second, the poet used these mechanisms intentionally. The amount of the poems that have these characters are nearly up to 30% among the poetry. Third, the poet tried to take an effect of pun using these semantic relations. Specially, he presented in a form of using pun, homonyms and polysemants. Fourth, in these poems most antonyms have binary contrast. Just one has three contrasting branches. Finally, we should broaden the boundary of the meaning and the function of the technical terms and generating process. If we adapt these results of the semantic theory strictly, it is likely that we will miss many meaningful relations in the poems.
