A Reseach on Hwang, Sunwon's novel "Hak" - Focusing on meaning of Inter - textuality and the space

ABSTRACT

This paper is about the research on novelist Hwang Soon-Won’s novel "Hak"[crane, 학 ]. Usually "Hak" has been regarded as a work of some mediocre qualities. Intellectual historical method plays a major role in this evaluation. However, allegorical method and the research on the space can be dedicated to finding some new meanings. Firstly, a method of research relys on methodology of Inter-textualiy. This method can be used to expose socail and cultural context. Also, comparasion and contrast describes affluent nets of the meanings of the novel. Secondly, the research’s main theme rely’s on the social-cultural meaning of the product’s space. Based on the research, the space does not only represent things but also socially produced. Especially "Hak" represents utopian meaning, by way of memory and space of Foucault's 'hetoropia'. Returning home motif departs on a paradoxical meaning and describes various meanings based on a space. Thirdly, “Hak" uses allegory and symbol to describe what we need to preserve humanities even during miserable war. As a result, “Hak" makes an affort to redeem nation’s starting and hopefulness in a total misery. "Hak" is a work of noteworthy quality that is two major persons narrative.
