ABSTRACT

This study analyzes an international practicum conducted at Souphanouvong University in Laos by six students majoring in Korean language education. It examines the program’s procedures and content to identify differences and commonalities between the students’ expectations and experiences. The analysis is based on Barkhuizen and Feryok’s (2006) teacher practicum framework, which emphasizes expectations, experiences, and articulation. The results reveal that students most frequently articulated unexpected experiences, followed by expected experiences, and then aspects that were neither experienced nor expected. Through diary entries, students reflected deeply on teaching methodologies, documenting their professional growth. The analysis of these entries shows that students experimented with diverse teaching approaches, carefully prepared lessons, and considered the teaching environment and students’ proficiency levels. Furthermore, they proposed an approach to enhance feedback for students and foster stronger interpersonal connections between teachers and learners. This study’s findings offer valuable insights for institutions designing and preparing international practicums for Korean language education.
