ABSTRACT

In the ninetieth century, the department store in Paris was elaborated as the glory of the bourgeois culture. In 1869, when Boucicaut and his associator put the first cornerstone of the new Bon Marché, the conditions of the appearance on the department store have already been prepared. The construction was accomplished on the junction of two sections; it was benefited of the convergence of two revolutions-that of commerce and that of the national economy-which had created favorable environment of the change and very important growth. The directors made an important role in order that the company had not only to become the first department store of France, but also to remain the leader of its section for 50 years. Because it is indispensable for us to concentrate so much on the causes of this phenomenon, it may be appropriate to deal with the proper quality to the Boucicaut family, and, briefly, post-development of this enterprise. In this study, we have especially focused on the process through which the creators and the leaders of Bon Marché practiced the new type of the social relations, activated the new perceptions and functions. This made its personnels, its clients and the public adapt to social changes which the department store implicated, and to its contribution.
