ABSTRACT

This article seeks to analyse the relationship between the events of May 1968 and the Higher Education Guidance Law of November 1968. For this, the article first explores the appalling state of higher education in the 1960s which triggered the events of May 1968 and the plans and the demands for university reform from the government and the academic community. The article then looks at the trend of student movement in the 1960s and the demands for university reform from the students and the Teachers’ Trade Unions in May 1968. Finally, the article delves into the contents of the Higher Education Guidance Law, the process of university reform in line with the Law, and the reaction of the students to the Law and the ensuing reforms.
