ABSTRACT

The Imperial University, organized in 1808, hardly considered primary education. The teacher was a private entrepreneur as other artisans. The honorary awards, distributed from 1818, were one of the only benefits of the state. In 1833, the teacher, become communal, was controlled directly by the mayor and the priest. During the Second Empire, had emerged system of classification, treatment and advancement. So the honorary awards became a means of rapid promotion or protection against competition. Thanks to the consolidation of public education in the 1880s, the teacher became government official and honorary awards were content to return to its original role.
