ABSTRACT

Trained at the Primary normal school with republican curriculum under the Third Republic, teachers got a possibility of the coalition with the Law of 1901, and became a member of teachers’ society which transforms itself into trade unions remainng illegal before 1924. At the time of the scission of the CGT in 1921, teachers’ unions split into two camps and they participate actively in the social debate on the ‘democratization of education’. Reformist teachers affiliated to the CGT advocate the concept of ‘école unique’ which was proposed by the radicals, while teachers of CGTU strongly oppose to it and pay attention to the Soviet model, ‘école du travail’.
