ABSTRACT

The two most conspicuous features of the post-war neofascism were Europeanization and metapoliticization. Maurice Bardèche’s political and intellectual itinerary precisely followed these classic routes of post-war revision of fascism. Even if he is still largely neglected by neofascist studies, Bardèche was one of the most influential ideologues of neofascism in France and also in Europe. Indeed, Bardèche was one of the first theoreticians of fascist Europeanism. In this essay I intend to uncover and elucidate the ways through which Bardeche could elaborate his European fascist vision or myth, by focusing on his 1951 book, The Egg of Christopher Columbus, the first major post-war exposition of fascist Europeanism in French.
