ABSTRACT

May 68 is undoubtedly the most important social and cultural event that French society has known since 1945. And yet, nearly fifty years later, it is still very far from being assumed as such. Unlike previous historical events, the legacy of 68 remains impossible today. To understand the considerable underground effects of May in contemporary France, we must go back to its first utopia and its failure, in those years when the passion of the sixty-eight was invested massively in a left-wing leftism. To overcome today the principle of irresponsible individualism that nourishes the air of the times, to find the path of a democratic passion, it is important to finally assume the heritage of May.
