ABSTRACT

The Present Status and Diagnosis of the Semiotic Analysis of the DanceHye-Ra kimDoctoral CourseInterdisciplinary Program of Art-Culture & Imagemedia,Pusan National UniversityThis study concentrated on the review of present proceedings for the semiotic analysis to the dance in Korea. Until now the published articles tried the theoretical approach to the dance by semiology, considered the dance as a complex of symbol system and found the symbols which is produced in the art of dance. With reviewing the meaning of the thesis, this study present the detailed examples of semiotic analysis to the specific art of dance in Korea. In the analysis of specific art, this study present largely three catagories below as the first, analysed motion by the binary opposition, the second Roland Barthes?s three dimensional mythical meta-interpretation as a cultural semiotic view and the third, Greimas system as a semantic view to the specific art with the narrative structure.As a conclusion, the first many articles revealed the possibility of semiotic analysis in the art of dance, the second the symbolism of the dance can be interpreted various semiotic views and the third above structural analytical method (i.e. Roland Barthes?s 3 dimensional mythical meta-interpretation) can be useful tools in analysis of dance. In the further study, the current semiotic analysis of dance need to considering individualistic perception to the dance and what is the semiotic meaning of dance in 21st century code of culture.
