Application of Computer Technology to DanceJi Hyun HanFormer Concurrent Professor of DanceSeokyeong UniversityWith the development of the computer technology, communication media of mass information-oriented society, a study and practical use for dance has been expanded into various fields. Initially, computer technology performed a role of a machine or tool catching a movement. However, as it has developed by degrees, its role as a tool to evaluate and transmit the dance has been improved. Such a computer techology opened a new academic field of ?Dancing Engineering?, by which various application of dance are executed using a computer. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of utilization of computer technology on dance. Therefore, in this study, we reviewed the concept, definition and history of computer technology, and looked into a history of the technology in arts and the introducing course of the technology to dance. In addition, after we divided the practical use of computer technology in dance into four categories, which are computer dance record, computer choreography, computer analysis and dance educational engineering for a study, we in turn examined that.Such effects, which appeared by grafting computer technology to dance record and choreography, analysis, educational, have us realize the necessity of more scientific and engineering access in dance than other fields. Furthermore, they urge dance-related theorists, educators, choreographers and dancers to perform a research in concert with computer programmers.
