The background of making jeongjaedo and current status of jeongjaedo through Uigwe in the Late Chosun Dynasty

ABSTRACT

This paper aims to identify the background of making a picture of jeongjae called as jeongjaedo and current status of jeongjaedo. Jeongjae was being produced together with uigwe, and uigwecheong which was temporary agency established after a banquet produced uigwe and jeongjaedo. Jeongjaedo has been drawn from Chungliuigwe in 1795's. Jeongjaedo was made of woodcut. The purpose of producing jeongjaedo were to record the jeongjae performed in royal event accurately and to make it as reference for future generations. Jeongjaedo delivered by uigwe in later of Chosun Dynasty are total 342 pieces, and 44 repertoires are drawn. It is the Mugo which recorded the most of jeongjaedo, total 19 pieces of jeongjaedo were drawn. Also, per uigwe, it has been revealed differences in the way of drawing jeongjaedo. The accuracy of recording jeongjaedo is approximately 90%. If we compare jeongjaedo and record of konglyunng, the error in record can be confirmed.
