ABSTRACT

This study explains the process of improvisation in W. Forsythe’s Improvisation Technology, based on two concepts of G. Deleuze’s term Machine: use(usage) and cutting(coupure). Forsythe presents the examples of creating new movements beyond the unification and mechanism of conservative movements. They start with the disconnection from organized order which is ruling a body and the understanding of the body, which enables the new use in circumstances free from fixed meanings. Through this thought Improvisation Technology is working as ‘improvisation-machine’ which is a making new dance through various movements of body free from imitating a certain form or indicating a certain meaning. These kinds of movements express unrepresentative features beyond the beauty of form or fixed meaning.
