AB - Korean modern dance has continuously formed new paradigms. When modern dance based on modernism of 1960s was introduced into the Korean higher education system and expanded with a firm force, Hong, Sincha’s performance became an opening to a new art form. She introduced to a unprecedented form different from the already existing formal modern dance by using voices, everyday movements and Korean traditional music, etc.
The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of the early dance works of Sincha Hong. Her dances have been evaluated in various ways such as Avant-garde dance, or post-modern dance, etc. by critics. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the researcher examines the concept of avant-garde and post modernism, which prescribe the Hong's dances and discusses the characteristics appearing in the early dance works of Hong.
