ABSTRACT

In South Korea, music is not classified as one of the production areas within the process of creating dance works. Therefore, this research aims to suggest measures to conceptualize sound design by including the concept of sound design in the process of dance creation. In order to present the concept, role and production method of sound design in dance works, this research applies the step-by-step sound design method in movies, which is suggested by David Sonnenschein, among the concepts of sound design used in movies where sound design was first started to present them according to the characteristics of dance works. In terms of the beginning of research on recognizing music as an independent area in dance works, this study has significance and research value and is expected to have significant impact on the development of South Korean dance by suggesting new measures for follow-up research on sound design.
