ABSTRACT

This study explored the learning experience of Shinmimyo dance among students in the University ofEducation to renew their perception of the assets of Korean dance as educational content. For this study, one class (29 students) of the first-year at G University of Education was selected asresearch participants. Students who took the basic knowledge subject, ‘Body Expression Activities’ werethe research participants, and this study allowed them to learn Shinminyo dance over six weeks. Thisstudy collected “class impression report”, “class appreciation report”, the researcher’s “class log”, andin-depth interviews. And the collected data were analyzed using James P. Spradley’s ethnographicanalysis methods, domain analysis, and taxonomic analysis. The results of this research are changes in perception of Korean traditional dance, expansion ofunderstanding and perception of dance, and integration of the Shinminyo dance with art, music, history,and modern popular music such as K-pop.
