ABSTRACT

Through an overview of the social and cultural background of the Middle Ages, this study aims to view the ‘death of dance’ as an inflection point that changes from a god-centered society to a human-centered society. This provides another interpretation of a humanities horizon and dance art for why dance should exist. Dane of death’adoxical structure that expressed ‘being alive’ rather than ‘dance to face death’ amid social and cultural oppression that prohibited dance. Therefore, the dance of death is a social criticism of ‘not being able to live properly’, an expression of truth, and above all, it is an instinctive movement for ‘self-expression of human beings’.
