ABSTRACT

Popular culture reflects and reproduces prevailing social values as they change over time. K-pop performances exert global influence, functioning as a cultural forum for contemporary gender discourse. Their movements and messages offer insight into evolving social and cultural debates. While earlier K-pop often adhered to a typical, passive ‘girl-next-door’ portrayal that perpetuated misogynistic readings, recent cases present proactive, empowered images of women, signaling departures from restrictive narratives. However, some works adopt feminist themes only superficially, risking exaggerated or narrow logics. This paper categorizes post-feminism in K-pop performance into four types, tracing patterns that persist historically and remain active today. By analyzing post-feminist elements across representative cases, it elucidates the implications embedded in these performances.
