AB - This paper focuses on the phenomenon that basic municipalities in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, have established archives in the last two to three years, and examines the background and causes.
The movement of establishing a continuous archive of regional historical associations that encompassed several regions beyond a specific municipality exerted great influence. The linkage and cooperation activities of The Japan Society of Archives Institutions also acted as a major factor. These examples of municipal archives in Nagano Prefecture will give prospects and implications that can facilitate the establishment of a local archive in Korea.
