AB - Nie Hai Hua succeeded not only in describing the big historical picture of the late Qing dynasty , but also in presenting images of a group of diplomats, which were not referred in previous novels. Though these diplomats, the novels gave readers an overseas view. This article essentially analyses these diplomats in the novel and finds out the shortage of professional diplomats in the late Qing dynasty when the cultural transformation took place.
