AB - Niu xiu was born in Wujiang, Jiangsu in the early Qing Dynasty. His ancient fiction“觚剩” is comparable with “聊齋志異”and “虞初新志”. However, little is known about his life. We find that Niuxiu studied under Wu Nancun and Niu Yian. He began his career by donation，and he officiated the county magistrates of Xiangcheng、Baishui、and Gaoming. During all his life time, he was honest and cherishing his people. He had a fine reputation and was loved by all his people. However, he died as the county magistrates of Gaoming without any promotion. During his spare time, he wrote a lot of works, such as “觚剩” and “臨野堂集”.
