ABSTRACT

The “Belt and Road” initiative has broughtnew opportunities for the development of China and Africa which also has greatsignificance for promoting the construction of modernization of China. Tocreate positive international opinion for the implementation of the Belt andRoad initiative, China needs to increase its communication power toward Africa,and plays down ideology, focuses on the development of people’slivelihood, shows “real China”and “Africa’sdevelopment” with “Chinastyle”, which is beneficial to construct China’sdiscourse system toward Africa, and responds powerfully to the frameinternational opinion from West countries, thereby advancing the identity from the international community toward China. In addition,the China’s national leaders have played an exemplary role for thecommunication toward Africa. Thus, it is of great theoretical and practicalsignificance to study the rhetorical strategies of Chinese leaders towardsAfrica. To provide theoretical support for China’s promotion of communication powertowards Africa, this paper attempts to analyze the strategy and significance ofChinese leader Xi Jinping's communication towards Africa from the perspectiveof national rhetoric.
