ABSTRACT

This study examines the meaning and value of women's shapes in new year picture, and examines cultural implications by type. The use of women as the subject in a painting has different characteristics compared to previous literati paintings. First, it presented the scalability of creative materials, Second, it reflects the reality of ordinary people's lives. In the case of woman figures, they have diversified compared to previously monolithic beauties, However, it still does not deviate much from the appearance of a woman that men want. In the case of the beauty figures, it is characterized by strengthening the function of prayer and depicting the heroine of popular novels and plays. In the case of the goddess figures, it has a more familiar image and reflects the reality related to the wishes of the common people such as immortality and filial piety. In the case of the heroine figures, it well describes an active woman who has a strong self-assertion and plays her role faithfully according to the demands of the times. New year picture well depict the realistic wishes and desires of the general public, helping to understand the social status of the Ming and Qing dynasties in themselves.
