AB - Modern Chinese ‘X侠’ is a quasi-affix that has the characteristics of generalization of meaning, categorization, high auxiliary power, and fixedness of position, resulting in the creation of many neo-derivative words utilizing it. The basic meaning of ‘侠’ was an expression referring to a courageous person who takes wealth lightly, is generous, and has a chivalrous spirit. As time passed, the basic semantic qualities of ‘chivalry’ and ‘chivalrous character’ gradually disappeared, leaving only the semantic qualities of [+person] with certain characteristics, and even negative meanings were created. ‘侠’ formed a new category with the ‘X侠’ structure, and through analysis of the conceptual integration process, it can be seen that there are two types: single-scope network and double-scope network. Through research on the creation mechanisms and processes of these quasi-affixes, we will be able to better understand the development and change patterns of Chinese vocabulary.
