ABSTRACT

Analysis of Jia Baoyu’s image is undoubtedly a hot topic in the study of “A Dream of Red Mansions”. Not only does the research perspective vary, but the related research results are also quite rich. These results provide readers with a very important reference for a deep and comprehensive understanding of Jia Baoyu’s image. However, looking at the existing research results, two important deficiencies can be clearly seen, namely the lack of mythological research perspective and the lack of research on Jia Baoyu’s childhood stage. It is precisely because of this shortcoming that there is an insurmountable gap for readers to understand the relationship between the myth of Nuwa patching up the sky, the myth of being born with a jade in her mouth, and the personality formation of Jia Baoyu as a teenager. This article will try to take several representative childhood stories of Jia Baoyu, such as “Zhua Zhou”(抓周), “Feeling Old at First Sight”(一见如故), and “Taixu Fantasy Dream”(太虚幻境梦) as research objects, explore the potential significance of Jia Baoyu's childhood stories from the perspective of mythological archetypes, and analyze Jia Baoyu’s personality. The generated prototype basis strives to understand Jia Baoyu’s image more comprehensively and analyze the overall structure of “A Dream of Red Mansions” more macroscopically and profoundly.
