ABSTRACT

This paper examines the asymmetry in Korean and Chinese copy-verb constructions. The functions of these constructions differ significantly between the two languages. Through cross-linguistic comparison, we analyzed their core functions and corresponding categories. Korean copy-verb constructions exhibit implicit negation and correspond to Chinese tautological constructions. We detailed the degree of implicit negation in Korean and explored reasons and specific cases for these correspondences. Conversely, Chinese copy-verb constructions emphasize results through causative relationships, forming a continuum of causal strength. Their Korean counterparts are causative connective endings, creating a many-to-many correspondence network between the two languages.
